Google is now on the cutting edge. Revealing mobile phones, software, design and of course, search – in one package.
But recently they’ve made a few very big announcements. First at I/O 2016, and yesterday at the MadeByGoogle event [#MadeByGoogle].
At the Google I/O event in May this year Google announced its brand new Operating System. Codenamed Android N, later being called Android Nougat, keeping in tune with their current confectionary naming strategy. It had many, many new features including software to improve battery life and much more.
Here’s video showcasing Android N’s multitasking capabilities:
Then last night at 5pm South African Time, Google had their MadeByGoogle Event where they debuted their new hardware.
Google Assistant, Phone, VR, Cloud and Home were shared via live YouTube Stream. All very impressive seeing as other companies, like Apple, have been at this game for a long long time, and have yet to bring us the same devices as capable and intergrated as Google’s.
So without further adieu, meet some of the new family members from Google.
Google assistant is basically google search with a personalised reach into your life. with a simple tap it reads whats on screen to search for relevant topics. This has been with us for a while but where it get’s interesting is its Learning capabilities.
Google assistant ‘learns’ how, what, when and why you search. Assistant will learn as you go and eventually become completely personalised to the point where your Assistant won’t be the same as the person’s next to you. At MadeByGoogle, they loved showing it off.
Here’s Assistant’s advert spot shown at MadeByGoogle:
Google Phone; Pixel
However, the next biggest thing to be showcased at Google’s #MadeByGoogle event is their phone. No, not an LG with unbloated Android and not a Nexus Generation Phone either; Google’s very own Phone complete with an Apple-esque ‘G’ logo on the back. At the event they took multiple stabs at Apple, shown in this video when they mention the headphone jack.
At a glance:
It’s named ‘Pixel’ and it seems amazing. It comes in two versions, both exactly the same except one is slightly bigger and has a bigger battery.
The 5.0Inch and 5.5Inch models both come with great AMOLED screens at 1080 x 1920 at ~441 ppi Pixel Density.
They both Feature Android OS, v7.1 (Nougat) as well as the same Hardware too:
Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821, Quad Core CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU.
USB-C for charging and data transfer.
The Camera’s on both are, again, the same:
A 12MP, f/2.0 lens with dual-LED Flash at the back and an 8MP, f/2.0, 1/3.2, Full HD shooter in the front.

All in all, Google really leapt into their Hardware showcase like kings and hopefully stay there for quite a bit. Their understanding of what it is that their customers expect is on par with the best in the industry. We all use Google and most of us use Android Phones – all the devices shown at MadeByGoogle are the results from many many years of research based on us; the consumers.
This, Pixel, Assistant as well as the Home Devices, is where it all comes together. With it, Everything you do can be smelted into one platform where nothing ever goes missing; and hopefully it only gets better from here!
